Rubén "Flaco" González is a composer and guitarist from San Juan, Argentina, where he studied classical guitar and was also part of the Rock en Español movement in the '80's as a guitar player and a songwriter. In New York City he attended the Jazzmobile Workshops on Jazz, Blues and Afro Caribbean music. He studied improvisation and musicianship in the African American tradition with multi instrumentalist/composer Makanda Ken McIntyre. Besides his work as a leader of bands featuring his songs, he has also performed in groups playing Tango, Brazilian Popular Music, Latin Jazz and Salsa. Flaco's lyrics touch upon social issues and current events as well as personal and relationship topics. In his music, Rock en Español , bossa nova, and the Latin American popular song share space with his own rhythmic style with novel harmonies. With songs about Mother Earth, alcoholism, and pixilated love on the Internet, among others, Rubén's performances are an excellent opportunity to taste original music with Spanish words in an intimate and rhythmic environment.
